DISESGLOB
A system of integrated evaluation of Protected Areas has been designed, a system of evaluation of the sustainability of the municipalities that contribute territory to the national parks studied. Future land uses have also been simulated.
SOSTPARK
The environmental and socioeconomic effectiveness of 5 Spanish networks of terrestrial protected areas (Natural Reserves, National Parks, Natural Parks, SACs, SPAs) and 1 marine (Marine Protected Areas) has been evaluated. The protective effect of the legislation and the management of the protected areas has been discriminated, collecting perceptions of social groups affected by the protection and proposing recommendations.

Contribution to the DH:

The cartographic and geostatistical data, modelled in a GIS, have been transferred to the managers in order to help them in the decision-making process: for example, in the environmental management of each protected area, in their coordination with those responsible for land use planning, urban planning, the distribution of subsidies to the municipalities that are part of the national parks' areas of socioeconomic influence, etc. The use of common systems for evaluating effectiveness will help coordinate management tasks at the national level and facilitate inter-territorial cooperation.
